B. Kojo Laing was a famous writer from Ghana. He was a novelist and a poet. People loved his work because it felt very special. He used a style called hybridity in his writing. This means he mixed standard English with local Ghanaian languages. He also used Ghanaian Pidgin English in his stories. This made his books feel unique and full of life.

Laing's writing worked in a very creative way. He often made up his own new words. These are called neologisms. To help readers, he included glossaries in his books. These lists explained his new words and Ghanaian words. His stories often felt like vivid, beautiful dreams. Some people said his landscapes seemed to come to life.

Laing had a very interesting life journey. He was born in Kumasi in 1946. He was the eldest of six children. His father, George Ekyem Ferguson Laing, was an Anglican priest. Laing went to school in Scotland for a time. He studied at the Vale of Leven Academy. Later, he earned a master's degree from Glasgow University in 1968.

He published many important books during his career. His first novel, Search Sweet Country, came out in 1986. This book won the Valco Award and the Ghana Book Award. He wrote Woman of the Aeroplanes in 1988. Another book, Major Gentl and Achimota Wars, won a Valco Award in 1993. He also wrote a poetry book called Godhorse in 1989.

Laing worked in many different jobs before writing full-time. He worked in the civil service until 1979. He also helped at the University of Ghana, Legon. In 1984, he became the head of Saint Anthony's School. He lived in Accra and wrote all day starting in 2005. He died in Ghana in 2017 at age 70. Many people call him an unsung hero of African fiction.
