At first, the city-state of Kerma was a very strong power. It ruled the Nile Valley between the first and fourth cataracts. Kerma was a rival to the people of Egypt. Later, Egypt took control of much of Nubia. This happened during the New Kingdom period. But when Egypt became weak, the Kushites built a new kingdom at Napata.

Hard jobs like fighting wars and dealing with bad weather made the kingdom weak. The Noba people and the Blemmyes caused trouble through conflict. At the same time, the Aksumites captured Meroë and took its gold. This caused the kingdom to split into three smaller parts. Even though the empire ended, the story of Kush shows how much they achieved. They left behind amazing ruins and a rich history for us to discover.
