King's Quest

arts Maturity 5-7 Next article →

King's Quest is a famous series of computer games. A company called Sierra Entertainment made them. A designer named Roberta Williams made most of them. She loved reading fairy tales. She used those old stories to build her worlds. These games feel like living stories.

You play as heroes from the royal family of Daventry. You might be King Graham. You might be his children, Alexander or Rosella. Sometimes you play as other people. You travel to many lands. You fight evil witches and wizards. You might even face a dragon.

To win, you must solve puzzles. You find items and keep them in an inventory. You use these items to move forward. You might solve riddles or find your way out of a maze. You can also use your senses. You must look, listen, smell, taste, or touch to find clues. Some games use a magic mirror. The mirror shows you things and helps you find your way.

These games were very special. They were among the first to use moving pictures. This let characters walk behind objects on the screen. It made the game worlds feel real.
