It was created by Jordan Mechner. His games take place in ancient and medieval Persia. The first game came out in 1989. To make the prince move well, Mechner used rotoscoping. This is a way to trace real movement. He used his own brother as the model for the prince.

Many different companies have made these games over the years. Ubisoft owns the rights to the series now. They made a popular set called The Sands of Time. These games often have action and adventure. Some games use 3D graphics. Other games are made for phones or tablets. You can even find the story in a graphic novel. There was even a big movie made by Disney.

New games are still being made today. One new game is called The Lost Crown. It features a new hero named Sargon. Another game is called The Rogue Prince of Persia. It has art that looks like French comics. This series is a very big part of game history.
