Many famous leaders held this title. Charlemagne was a great leader long ago. He was a king of the Franks and the Lombards. He was also the first Holy Roman Emperor. Some call him the "Father of Europe."

Today, eighteen kings lead different lands. Most of them work in a constitutional monarchy. This means they follow a set of rules. A few kings still have full power. The King of Saudi Arabia is one example. The King of Eswatini is another. In the Islamic world, leaders use other titles. They might be called a sultan or an emir. There are many ways to lead a country.
