You press a row of levers called keys. These keys make music in many ways. Some use pipes, like an organ. Others use strings, like a piano. Some even use electricity to make sound. These are called electronic keyboards.

History shows us many types of these tools. The oldest one was the hydraulis. It was a pipe organ from ancient Greece. Long ago, the organ was the only kind. Later, new tools like the harpsichord appeared. In 1698, Bartolomeo Cristofori made a new tool. He called it the pianoforte. This was the first model for the modern piano. It let players change the volume. You could play soft or loud by how you hit the keys.

Today, we have many more choices. Digital pianos can mimic many sounds. A player can use their touch to show feeling. They can change the way a song sounds. This makes playing very special for the artist.
