He is known for telling stories about ordinary people. His films often focus on social issues like poverty and homelessness. He also makes movies about workers and their rights. Many people value his work because it shows real life. He wants to show how big political changes affect families and friends. This makes his movies feel very important to many viewers.

Making a film involves many steps and careful choices. Loach often uses local ways of speaking called dialects. For example, he used a Yorkshire dialect in the film Kes. He used Cockney in the film Poor Cow. He also used Scouse and Glaswegian in other stories. Using these real voices helps the characters feel like real people. This way of working makes the stories feel much more honest.

Loach has had a very long career in movies. He was born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, on June 17, 1936. He went to King Edward VI Grammar School. Later, he joined the Royal Air Force when he was 19. He also studied law at St Peter's College, Oxford. Before making big movies, he worked as an actor in theatre. He also directed many shows for BBC Television.

His career includes many big awards and famous moments. The film Kes was voted the seventh greatest British film of the 20th century. Loach has won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival twice. He won this top prize for The Wind That Shakes the Barley in 2006. He won it again for I, Daniel Blake, in 2016. He also holds a record for having 15 films in the Cannes main competition.

Loach's work connects to the way we see the world. He believes that the struggles of working people are very dramatic. His movies show how politics are part of everyday life. He was influenced by filmmakers like Vittorio De Sica. De Sica showed him that movies could be about regular people. Loach continues to make films that make people think about society. He confirmed that The Old Oak would be his last film.
