She received a "golden ticket" to move on to the Hollywood rounds. On September 4, 2002, she won the competition at the Kodak Theatre. She secured 58% of the votes against runner-up Justin Guarini. Following her victory, she signed with RCA Records, 19 Recordings, and S Records. Her debut single, "A Moment Like This," climbed to number one on the charts. This song broke a 38-year-old record set by The Beatles for the largest leap to number one.

Before her television success, Clarkson faced many challenges in her early life. She was born on April 24, 1982, in Fort Worth, Texas. She grew up in Burleson, Texas, in a highly conservative Southern Baptist household. Her mother was an English teacher and her father was an engineer. In middle school, a choir teacher noticed her singing in a hallway. This led Clarkson to join the school choir and later perform in musicals. She eventually moved to Los Angeles to pursue music professionally. During this time, she worked several jobs and even appeared as an extra in television shows like Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

Clarkson's musical career is defined by her ability to master different genres. Her debut album, Thankful, was released in 2003.
