It is a huge home for many different kinds of animals. The park is most famous for its Indian rhinoceroses. In fact, it hosts two-thirds of all the world's Indian rhinoceroses.

A census in March 2018 counted 2,613 rhinos living there. This group included 1,641 adults and 385 calves. The park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This means it is recognized as a very important place for the whole world.

The park works like a giant, natural puzzle of different habitats.

Four major rivers flow through this land. The Brahmaputra River is the biggest one. The park also has many small lakes called beels. These water bodies change every year as the rivers move. This mix of water and land helps many living things survive.

The story of the park began a long time ago.

In 1904, Mary Curzon visited the area. She was the wife of the Viceroy of India. She did not see any single-horned rhinoceroses during her trip. This made her want to protect the animals. Because of her, the Kaziranga Proposed Reserve Forest was created on June 1, 1905. Later, in 1950, a man named P. D. Stracey changed its name. He wanted to remove words that sounded like hunting.

Many amazing animals live in these forests and grasslands.

Kaziranga has the world's largest population of wild water buffalo. There are about 1,666 of them. You can also find many birds in the park. BirdLife International calls it an Important Bird Area. This is because so many different types of birds live there.

Nature can be both beautiful and difficult for the animals.

During the monsoon season from June to September, heavy rains fall. The Brahmaputra River often overflows and causes big floods. This can cover 70% to 80% of the park.

When the water rises, animals must move to higher ground. They often head toward the Karbi Anglong Hills to stay safe. Even though floods are hard, the park's cycle of water keeps the land healthy.
