The river moves through many places. It flows over the Rusumo Falls. These falls are near the town of Rusumo. The river also goes through Akagera National Park. It ends when it flows into Lake Victoria. The Kagera brings a lot of water to the lake. It gives about 6.4 billion cubic metres of water each year.

Many kinds of fish live in the river. At least 55 types of fish live in the Rwanda part. Some fish live only in this area. Rapids and falls make it hard for fish to swim. This keeps fish in different parts of the river. One kind of fish is now extinct. This means it is gone forever. The river is very important to the lands around it.
