Jules Perrot was a very famous French dancer and choreographer. A choreographer is a person who creates the dance moves for a show. He was born in Lyon, France, in 1810. Perrot helped create some of the most well-known ballets of the 1800s. These shows are called ballets because they use dance to tell a story. People still remember his work today because his dances were so special.

Perrot had a very busy way of working with many different dancers. He first danced with a famous woman named Marie Taglioni. Their time working together was quite short because she feared he might outshine her. Later, he met a talented dancer named Carlotta Grisi. He coached her to help her become a great star. In 1836, he even danced on stage with her in London.

Creating a ballet is a big job that involves many steps. Perrot often worked with a composer named Cesare Pugni to make music. They worked together on many shows like La Esmeralda in 1844. One of his hardest jobs was making a show called Pas de Quatre. This ballet was created on July 12, 1845, in London. He had to persuade four leading ballerinas to dance together at once.

Perrot traveled to many different cities to share his dance talent. He visited dance centers like London, Milan, Vienna, and Naples. He also worked at Her Majesty's Theatre in London for six years. In 1842, he made a successful show called Alma ou La Fille du Feu. He worked on many other shows like Ondine and Le Judgement de Paris. These performances helped him become a leader in the world of dance.

Later in his life, Perrot moved to the country of Russia. He worked for the Imperial Ballet in the city of St. Petersburg. He eventually became the Ballet Master for that large group. He stayed in Russia until 1858 and married a student named Capitoline Samovskaya. They had two children together while he lived there. Perrot finally returned to Paris and died on holiday in 1892.
