The tree has shiny green leaves. These leaves have three lines on them. The fruit is an edible drupe. A drupe is a fruit with a hard pit inside. When the fruit is young, it is green. It tastes like a mild apple. As it grows, it turns brown or black. It becomes wrinkled and looks like a small date. Inside, there is a hard kernel. This kernel can hold two seeds.

People eat jujubes in many ways. You can eat them fresh or dried. Some people make sweet tea or juice. In China, they make steamed cakes.

In Australia, some people even make jujube beer. In Europe, tiny insect larvae sometimes eat the crops. These bugs can eat most of a crop.
