Juan Gris was a famous painter who helped change how people see art. He was a key part of a style called Cubism, which uses shapes to show the world. While some Cubists used only dark colors, Gris used bright and beautiful colors.

His work feels very orderly and clear to the eye. People love his art because it feels both smart and colorful. He made the art world a more interesting place with his unique ideas.

To make his art, Gris used math to help him plan his paintings. He liked to use a clear structure, almost like a grid, to organize his work.

He also used a method called collage, or papier collé. This means he would glue different pieces onto his canvas. This helped him create a style called Synthetic Cubism. His paintings often blend the objects and the background into one single shape.

Gris was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1887. He first studied engineering before he decided to become a professional painter.

In 1906, he moved to Paris to find more opportunities. He lived in a famous building called the Bateau-Lavoir. During his time in Paris, he met many famous artists and poets. He even worked as a cartoonist for magazines before he began painting seriously in 1911.

His life in Paris was full of many important meetings and shows. In 1912, he showed his art at the first big Cubism show in Barcelona.

He was friends with great artists like Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Gris also worked on designs for the famous Ballets Russes in 1924. Sadly, he died in 1927 from kidney failure at the age of 40. He left behind a wife, Josette, and a son named Georges.

Today, people still find Juan Gris's work very special and valuable. His paintings are kept in famous museums all around the world.

One of his paintings, a still life with a tablecloth, sold for $57.1 million. This is a very high price for a piece of art. His organized way of painting even helped inspire other new art styles. He showed us that math and bright colors can work together beautifully.
