He is a professor at New York University. He studies why people have certain morals.

Haidt created the moral foundations theory. This theory says we have built-in ways to judge right and wrong. He compares these to taste buds on a tongue. Just as we have different tastes for food, we have different moral feelings. These include care, fairness, loyalty, authority, and purity.

He found that different political groups value these things in different ways.

Haidt also uses a famous story to explain how we think. He calls it the elephant and the rider. The elephant is our fast, gut feeling. The rider is our slow, thinking brain. The elephant usually leads the way. The rider then tries to explain why the elephant moved.

He has written many books. Some look at how we find happiness. Others look at how smartphones change childhood. He wants to help people understand each other better. He even started a group to help people share different ideas.
