Richard Thaler is a famous economist.

He studies how people make choices. He studies a field called behavioral economics. This field mixes economics with psychology. Psychology is the study of how people think.

Thaler found that people do not always act like computers. Old ideas said people always make perfect choices. Thaler showed that people can be messy. One idea is the endowment effect.

This means we value things more just because we own them. We also use mental accounting. This is when we put money into different groups in our heads. We might spend a gift differently than a paycheck.

He also talks about choice architecture. This is how choices are set up. He uses "nudges" to help people. A nudge is a small push. It helps people make better choices. For example, companies can sign people up for savings plans automatically. This helps people save more for the future. Thaler won the Nobel Prize in 2017 for his work. This is a very big honor.
