He worked as a scribe. A scribe is a person who writes things by hand. This job helped him meet many people. He knew postmen and traders. These people could bring him news from far away.

In 1605, he started a new project. It was called the Relation. Many people call this the first newspaper. He printed it in a city called Strasbourg. For a long time, people thought it began in 1609. New evidence shows it really started in 1605.

Some experts have different ideas. One historian thought it was a newsbook. He said it looked too much like a book. It was printed in a large size. But many other groups call it the first newspaper. It was a new way to share news regularly.
