Joel Osteen is a well-known pastor in Houston, Texas. He leads Lakewood Church. His father started the church in an old feed store. Now, the church is in a very large sports arena.

Osteen is a famous speaker on TV. He also writes many books. He teaches people to have a positive attitude. He says to focus on the goodness of God. He does not talk much about sin.

Some people disagree with his ideas. They call his teaching the prosperity gospel. This is the belief that God wants people to be rich. Others say his message focuses too much on people instead of God.

Osteen and his wife, Victoria, host big events. These events use music to share hope. In 2017, a big storm called Hurricane Harvey hit his city. People argued about when the church would open as a shelter. The church did open to help people after that. In 2024, a woman brought a gun to the church. Police officers stopped her during the event. Osteen does not take a salary from the church. He makes money from the books he writes.
