Welby went to Trinity College, Cambridge. While he was a student, he felt a change in his heart. He said he felt the presence of God. This led him to study theology. He trained to be a priest at Durham.

He became the Archbishop of Canterbury in 2013. This is a very important role. He helped at many big events. He was there for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. He also helped at the coronation of King Charles III.

Welby spoke about how businesses should act. He thought about if companies can do wrong. He also spoke about money and loans. He resigned from his role in 2025. This happened after a report about how the church handled old claims of harm.
