The dance grew from swing dancing. In the United States, people often called it swing. Around 1940, American soldiers brought dances like the lindy hop to Europe. They also brought the jitterbug. Young people in the UK liked these dances a lot. They began to use the word jive for them. Different ways of moving led to new styles. These include boogie-woogie and swing boogie. Some people think jive is a Latin dance. This is not quite right. Its real roots are in swing. It is a way to move to the beat of jazz music.
