They are often called nontrinitarian and millenarian. This means they do not believe in the Trinity. They also believe that God's kingdom will soon rule the earth. Many things make their way of life different from other Christians. They use a special Bible called the New World Translation. They do not believe in hell or the idea that the soul lives forever. They also do not celebrate holidays like Christmas, Easter, or birthdays. They believe these customs have pagan origins.

Charles Taze Russell helped start a movement called the Bible Students. He helped form the Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society in 1881. After Russell died in 1916, a man named Joseph Rutherford took over. He faced many disputes with other leaders. This led to many people leaving the group. Rutherford made many big changes to their rules. In 1931, he gave the group the name Jehovah's Witnesses.
