Jeffrey Archer is a famous English writer and former politician. He is known for writing many best-selling novels and stage plays. People all over the world enjoy his stories about life and ambition. His books have been a huge success in many countries. In fact, he has sold more than 320 million copies worldwide. One of his most famous books is called Kane and Abel. This book alone has sold about 34 million copies.

Writing a book is a very long and careful job. Archer does not just write a story once and finish. He often writes up to 17 different drafts of a single book. This means he rewrites his work many times to make it better. Since 2010, he has traveled to a villa in Mallorca to work. He calls his writing home "Writer's Block." He likes to write in focused blocks of two hours at a time.

Archer's life has seen many different paths and changes. He was born in London on April 15, 1940. His family later moved to a seaside town called Weston-super-Mare. As a young boy, he dreamed of playing for a football club. He went to Wellington School on a scholarship in 1951. Later, he studied at the University of Oxford for three years. At Oxford, he was a very fast runner in races.

His career in politics included many important roles and events. He was a Member of Parliament for Louth from 1969 to 1974. He also served as the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party. However, he faced many hard times and financial troubles. A bad investment left him with nearly £500,000 in debt. He even spent time in prison after a legal case in 2001. These events ended his active career in politics.

Archer's life shows how people can start over after hard times. When he lost his money, he turned to writing to survive. This choice changed his life and made him a global success. His stories often follow people through many years of their lives. For example, The Clifton Chronicles follows a man named Harry Clifton. These tales connect his personal history to the worlds he creates.
