He spent his life exploring how books work. He was also a teacher. He taught young boys and older students. He taught many subjects like history and science.

Ricardou loved to invent new ways to write. He was a key part of a group called the French New Novel. This group changed how stories were told. One of his books, La Prise de Constantinople, was very special.

The front and back covers used different words. The pages did not even have numbers! He wanted the act of writing to be an adventure.

Later, he created a new science of writing. He called this textics. He used rules to help him find new ideas. He believed that rules did not stop creativity. Instead, rules helped him think of things he never imagined. He even found inspiration in music. As a child, he loved singing canons. A canon is a song where people sing the same thing at different times. This helped him see how words can overlap and work together.
