He spent much of his life sharing stories and verses with the world.

Seifert worked in many different ways to share his ideas. He started as a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. He worked as an editor for magazines like Rovnost, Sršatec, and Reflektor. He also helped found a group for artists called Devětsil. In the 1930s and 1940s, he worked as a journalist for trade unions. By 1949, he decided to stop journalism to focus only on books. This allowed him to spend all his time on his beautiful poetry.

Even when things were difficult, Seifert stayed true to his beliefs. When he won the Nobel Prize, he was too sick to attend the ceremony. His daughter, Jana, went to accept the award for him. The state-controlled media only gave the news a tiny amount of space. When he died on January 10, 1986, he was 84 years old. He was buried in Kralupy nad Vltavou. Many people came to his burial despite the presence of the secret police.
