History in Jammu has seen many different rulers and changes. After the Mughal power declined, the Jamuwal family grew very strong. Raja Ranjit Dev ruled from 1728 to 1780 and was highly respected. He helped the city grow by making it safe for traders and craftsmen. Later, the Sikh Empire took control of Jammu in 1808. Eventually, the Dogra dynasty began its rule under Raja Kishore Singh. These rulers built many large temples and schools for the people.
