Its name is Jörmungandr. Some people call it the World Serpent. It is so large that it circles the Earth. It even bites its own tail.

Jörmungandr is a child of the god Loki. The god Odin took the serpent and threw it into the sea. There, it grew to a massive size. This serpent is the enemy of the god Thor. They have a long history of fighting.

One story says Thor tried to lift the serpent. It was hidden by magic to look like a huge cat.

Thor could only lift one paw. Another story tells of a fishing trip. Thor used an ox head as bait. He caught the serpent in the deep water.

Many people believe a big event called Ragnarök is coming. One sign is when the serpent lets go of its tail. The sea will flood and the serpent will move onto land. In the end, Thor and the serpent will fight a final battle. They will both die during this fight.
