Islamic mythology includes many stories and beliefs. These stories help people understand their world. Some people use the word "myth" to mean something that is not true. However, in studies, a myth can be a story that defines a culture's worldview.

In Islam, many stories focus on practical laws and social order. Still, traditional narratives are very important. These include stories about how the world began and what happens at the end of time. Some stories also include the life of the prophet Muhammad.

There are two main types of these stories. The first type is called cosmogony. These myths deal with the creation and origins of the universe. They explain where people came from and how the world is structured. The second type is called eschatology. This is the study of the "last things." These stories look at the end of the world and the day of judgment. They also talk about heaven and hell.

Creation stories in Islam are based on the Quran. They are also found in other writings like hadiths and poetry. The Quran teaches that one God, Allah, created everything. The Quran does not tell one single, continuous story of creation. Instead, it uses different parts to share a message. Some verses say the heavens and the earth were created in six periods.

Some people call these periods "days." Others say these periods might be very long eras of time.

There are also stories about the first humans. Adam is described as the first human and the first prophet. Before humans, the jinn lived on the earth. Some stories say an army of angels led by Iblis fought the jinn. After that, God announced He would place a human on earth. Some angels questioned this because they feared humans might cause trouble.

Eventually, most angels bowed to Adam, but Iblis did not.

Adam and his wife lived in the Garden of Eden. They ate from a forbidden tree, which was the Tree of Eternity. Because of this, they had to live on the earth. Some traditions say they were forgiven by God during their lives. These stories help explain why there is both good and evil in the world. They also show how humans use free will. These ancient narratives remain a central part of the Islamic tradition today.
