A sprinkler is a tool used to water plants.

It works by spraying water into the air. This makes the water fall like rain. People use them for lawns and big farms. They also use them to cool things down. They can even stop dust in the air.

Some sprinklers live under the ground. They use a solenoid valve to work. A solenoid is a part that uses electricity to move. This valve lets water flow through pipes. The pipes are often made of plastic. Some are made of PVC. Others are made of polyethylene. At the end of the pipes, the water comes out. Some heads spray in a set pattern. Other heads spin in a circle. Some use drip emitters to give water one drop at a time.

Farmers use big systems too. In 1940, Frank Zybach made a center-pivot system. There are also rolling pipes on big wheels. These move slowly across large fields.
