This is because of a big event in 1898. During the Battle of Alapan, the first Philippine flag was flown. This battle was a victory for General Emilio Aguinaldo. It helped lead to the country's independence from Spain. Today, the city celebrates this with the First Wagayway Festival. This is also known as the Flag-Waving Festival.

People use the festival to show love for their country.

The history of Imus changed many times over the years. Long ago, the name came from the Tagalog word "imos." This word means a cape or a headland. At first, Imus was part of a place called Cavite el Viejo. For a long time, people had to walk on dirt roads to get to town. In 1795, Imus finally became its own independent town. Later, it joined with other towns like Bacoor and Perez-Dasmariñas. Eventually, a vote in 2012 turned the town into a city.
