This city is a major center for many things. It is known for finance, technology, and media. It is also a place for arts, fashion, and academics. Many large companies have their main offices here. The city has a very big skyline. It has 289 high-rise buildings.

In fact, 80 of these buildings are taller than 150 meters. This is the fourth largest skyline in the Philippines.

The name Taguig has a special meaning. It comes from the Tagalog word "taga-giik." This word means rice threshers. In the 1570s, the men in this town were very good at threshing rice. They were called "mga taga-giik."

Later, Spanish explorers found the name hard to say. They changed "Tagui-ig" to the shorter name we use today. This was influenced by Spanish spelling rules.

Taguig has a long and changing history. Long ago, it was a Tagalog settlement. Archaeologists found old Chinese plates and cups there. These items likely came from the Ming dynasty. During Spanish rule, it was a separate town by 1587.

Later, the United States used much of the land for the military. They created a camp called Fort William McKinley.

This camp was later renamed Fort Bonifacio.

Today, Taguig is a place where business and life meet. In the 1990s, the BCDA began changing the old military land. This created new areas like Bonifacio Global City and McKinley Hill.

These districts are now hubs for money and trade. The city became a highly urbanized city in 2004. It remains a vital part of the national capital region.
