This way, they can charge a leader with doing something wrong. Impeachment is used to remove people from high offices. This helps make sure leaders follow the law.

Many countries use this rule. Between 1990 and 2020, 132 leaders faced impeachment in 63 different countries. In Korea, a group called the Sahundae helped with this in the year 983. In the Ashanti Empire in West Africa, leaders were also removed if they broke oaths. These rulers lost their special items, like golden thrones.

In the United States, the House of Representatives starts the charge. Then, the Senate holds a trial.

In Brazil, the process is also very detailed. A group of lawmakers must vote to start the case. If they vote to remove a president, that person must leave their job.
