He is known as one of the "New Historians" in Israel. These scholars look at the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in new ways. Pappé studies how people live together and how big changes happen in society. His work is very important to people who study history and politics today.

His research focuses on the year 1948. During this time, many Palestinians had to leave their homes. This is often called the Palestinian expulsion or flight. Pappé believes this was a planned campaign. He calls this process "ethnic cleansing." He uses a document called Plan Dalet to support his ideas. He wants people to understand the truth about what happened during that time.

Pappé's ideas can cause big debates. Some scholars say his work is very brave and well-documented. They think his books are important for understanding the world. However, other historians like Benny Morris disagree with him. Morris has called his work dishonest or full of errors. Pappé left Israel in 2008 and moved to the University of Exeter in England. He wants one democratic state where Israelis and Palestinians can live together in peace.
