Iapetus is a large moon of Saturn.

It is the third largest moon there. An astronomer named Giovanni Cassini found it in 1671.

The moon is named after a Titan from Greek myths.

Iapetus has a very strange shape. It looks like a walnut. This is because of a huge ridge around its middle. This ridge is so tall that it changes the moon's shape. The moon is also mostly made of ice.

One of the most amazing things is its color. One side is very dark. The other side is very bright.

This happens because of heat from the sun. The dark side gets warmer than the bright side. This heat makes ice turn into gas. This process is called sublimation. The gas moves to the cold, bright side. There, it turns back into ice. This makes the bright side even brighter over time.

Iapetus also has a very odd path around Saturn. Its orbit is tilted much more than other moons. This tilt means you can see Saturn's rings clearly from Iapetus.
