Kaypakkaya had many strong and specific ideas about how the world should work. He was a Maoist, which means he followed the ideas of Mao Zedong. He believed in a concept called People's War to change society. He also wrote a famous piece called "On the National Question." In this writing, he supported the idea of Kurdish self-determination. He was different from other leaders because he also spoke out against Kemalism.

He worked hard to build new groups for his ideas. He helped found the Communist Party of Turkey/Marxist-Leninist, also known as the TKP/ML. He also formed an armed group called TİKKO to support his party. Before this, he was part of the Çapa Idea Club. He even served as the president of that club in 1968. He worked for the newspaper called İşçi Köylü to share his thoughts.

In 1973, things became very difficult for Kaypakkaya and his allies. The Turkish military was looking for the communist movement. On January 24, 1973, the military attacked them in the mountains of Tunceli. Kaypakkaya was badly wounded during this fight. He had to hide in a cave for five days during the snow. Later, a teacher named Cafer Atan reported him to the military.

Kaypakkaya was taken to Diyarbakır Prison after his capture. He was treated very poorly by the authorities while he was there. On May 18, 1973, he was killed by military officers. He was only twenty-four years old at the time of his death. Today, many people see him as a symbol of resistance. People still read his books and listen to songs about him.
