Long ago, many people moved to Egypt. They came from a place called the Levant. These people were likely Canaanites. They moved to the Nile Delta to find work. They lived there for many years. Eventually, they became the leaders of Egypt. This was the first time foreign kings ruled the land.

The Hyksos brought new things to Egypt. They brought horses and chariots. They also brought a sickle sword called a khopesh.

The Hyksos did not rule all of Egypt. Egyptian leaders ruled from a city called Thebes. The two groups lived at the same time. Later, a war broke out between them. An Egyptian leader named Ahmose I won the war. He started a new time for Egypt called the Eighteenth Dynasty.
