To the north, the park is bounded by Bayswater Road. To the east, you will find Park Lane. To the south, it sits near Knightsbridge. The park is very large and provides a quiet escape from the busy city.

Inside the park, water plays a big part in the landscape. Two large lakes divide the land into different sections. One is called the Serpentine, which sits in the southern part of the park. The other is known as the Long Water. A bridge designed by George Rennie connects these two areas.

The Serpentine was actually formed by damming the River Westbourne. This river flows through the park toward the Thames. The lakes make the park a beautiful place to visit.

The history of this land goes back many centuries. In 1536, King Henry VIII took the land from Westminster Abbey. He used the area as a private hunting ground for deer. In 1637, King Charles I opened the park to the general public. It quickly became a popular place for people to gather. People especially loved to visit for May Day parades. Later, Queen Caroline helped make major improvements to the park in the 1700s.

Hyde Park has hosted many important events through the years. In 1851, the Great Exhibition was held here. A huge building called the Crystal Palace was built for this event.
