It first came out in 1974. Larry Flynt started it. He wanted to advertise his clubs. The magazine became very popular. It had 3 million readers in the early 1980s. Today, about 500,000 people read it.

Hustler is known for being very bold. It shows more graphic photos than other magazines. It has many regular parts. One part is called "Hustler Honey." This is a photo in the middle of the magazine. Another part is "Asshole of the Month." This column picks a person to criticize. It uses a funny drawing of a donkey.

Some parts of the magazine have caused trouble. A comic strip called Chester the Molester was very criticized. It showed a character doing bad things to children. Later, the character changed to Chester the Protector. This new character was meant to protect girls.

The Hustler name is used for many things. It is used for clubs and stores.
