Hunter × Hunter is a very popular Japanese manga series. A manga is a type of comic book from Japan. Yoshihiro Togashi wrote and drew these stories. He began publishing them in Weekly Shōnen Jump in March 1998. This series has become one of the best-selling manga of all time. By July 2022, over 84 million copies were in circulation around the world.

The story follows a young boy named Gon Freecss. Gon thought both of his parents were dead. Later, he learns his father, Ging, is a famous Hunter. Hunters are elite professionals with special licenses. They hunt for rare animals or hidden treasures. They also explore unknown places or find lawless people. To get a license, people must pass a very hard exam. The success rate is less than one in a hundred thousand.

As Gon travels, he learns about a power called Nen. Nen is the ability to control your own life energy, or aura. This aura flows out of people all the time. There are four basic Nen techniques used by experts. Some people use it to strengthen their bodies for defense. Others use it to hide their presence or make more energy. Users can even create objects out of their aura. Some people make special rules to make their Nen much stronger.

Many people have brought this story to life on screen. There was a 62-episode anime series made by Nippon Animation. It first aired on Fuji Television from 1999 to 2001. Later, a second anime series was made by Madhouse. This one ran from 2011 to 2014 and had 148 episodes. There were also two animated movies released in 2013. These shows help more people enjoy the world Togashi created.

Creating this manga has been a long journey for Togashi. He was inspired by his hobby of collecting different objects. He often takes breaks, which are called hiatuses, to rest. Sometimes these breaks last for a very long time. Togashi has faced hard jobs with his back and hips. He even had to draw while lying down to keep working. Despite these hard times, he continues to share his stories.
