My Hero Academia is a famous Japanese manga series. It was written and drawn by Kōhei Horikoshi.

The story happens in a world where almost everyone has superpowers. These powers are called Quirks. About 80% of the people in this world have them. Some Quirks are very small. Other Quirks are huge and look like the power of a god. Most people get their Quirks shortly after they are toddlers. This special world changes how people live and work together. It even changed how countries like Japan and the United States act on the world stage.

Using a Quirk can sometimes be a hard job for the body. Many Quirks have a physical drawback or a limit on how they are used. Some Quirks even change how a person's body looks. People with these physical changes are sometimes called heteromorphs. There is also a group of people called Quirkless. They are the 20% of the population born without any powers. The story follows a boy named Izuku Midoriya. He is Quirkless, but he still wants to be a hero. He meets the world's greatest hero, All Might. All Might gives Izuku a special power called One For All. This power can be passed from one person to another.

Training to be a hero takes a lot of work and skill. Izuku goes to a famous school called U.A. High School in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. At this school, students learn how to fight and how to rescue people. They also learn how to handle the drawbacks of their powers. Companies even help by making special superhero suits for the students. To become a professional, students must pass the Provisional Hero License Exam. They can also do internships to learn more. Some students shadow a Pro Hero for a week. Others do a Hero Work-Study to act as sidekicks.

There are many ways to enjoy this story outside of the books. The manga was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump from July 2014 to August 2024. It has 42 collected volumes. There is also an anime television series made by a studio called Bones. This show has eight seasons and several animated films. Some of the films are called Two Heroes and Heroes Rising. There are even video games and stage plays about the characters.

This series has been a very big success all over the world. By April 2024, over 100 million copies of the manga were in circulation. This includes the main story and the spin-off books. The books have even appeared on The New York Times best-seller list. People love the art and the action scenes in the series. It has also won awards like the Sugoi Japan Award. Many people think it is one of the best series from the 2010s. It even uses ideas from Western superhero comics to tell its story.
