society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Humanitarianism is the idea of helping others. People do this to stop suffering. They want to make life better for everyone. This can happen in one town or across the world.

In the 1800s, many people worked for change. In England, children had very hard jobs. Humanitarians pushed for new laws. These laws made work safer for children. In 1863, the Red Cross was started. This was a big step for global help.

Today, people help in many ways. They give food, water, and medicine. They also help people find homes. Some people help during wars or big disasters.

We now have digital humanitarianism. This means using computers to help. In 2010, people used maps to help after an earthquake in Haiti. In 2010, bloggers in Russia used the internet to help during big fires. Social media lets people share news fast. This helps groups find people who need aid.
