You can give money, goods, or your time. This can be done directly or through a group. Some people call this almsgiving. It is often a religious duty. People often help those who cannot help themselves. This includes orphans, the sick, or the injured.

Giving can create a "warm glow" for the giver. This is a good feeling that comes from helping.

Many groups help people in different ways. Food banks and hospitals are common examples. Some charities focus on basic needs like food and water. Others fund research to help cure diseases. In the past, people gave goods directly to others. Now, many people give money online. Some people give to help their own religious groups. For example, many Muslims give because of religious duty. A study found that religious people often give more. In the United States, even people with less money give a large part of their pay to charity.
