People and computers talk to each other in many ways.

This way of talking is called human-computer interaction. We call it HCI for short. It is a field of study. It looks at how we use computer systems.

One way to talk is by using our eyes. We look at screens to see information. We can also use our voices. Computers can use speech recognition to understand our words. They can even hear a laugh or a sigh.

Some tools use touch. We use a mouse or a keyboard. We can use a pen on small screens. Some tools use haptic feedback. This means they use touch to send signals back to us. This helps us feel things in virtual worlds.

Designers work hard to make these tools easy to use. This is called usability. Good design helps people stay safe. For example, pilots need clear tools to fly planes. If a tool is hard to use, it can cause big problems. HCI researchers study how to make computers better for everyone.
