Most people use speech to talk. Speech is using your voice to make words. This is a skill mostly unique to humans. Even chimpanzees, our closest relatives, cannot speak. They may live with humans, but they do not use words.

There are many types of communication. Some people use nonverbal communication. This means sending messages without words. You might use your face or your hands. You can also use your tone of voice. Some people use visual communication. This is when you use your eyes to read signs or pictures. A red stop sign is a good example.

We also use technology for telecommunication. This is a way to talk using machines. It helps us send messages from far away. You can use a radio or an email. This makes sharing ideas very fast. It works even if people are in different places.
