A home provides privacy and a place to rest.

In the 1800s, people worked to make housing better. In 1948, a big group called the United Nations said housing is a human right. This means everyone needs a place to live.

There are two main kinds of housing. Market housing is bought and sold by people or companies. Prices change based on what people want. Non-market housing is managed by the government or groups. These homes are often cheaper for families with less money. This is called subsidized housing.

Having a good home is very important for health. A safe home helps our bodies and minds. Bad homes can have mold or damp walls. Overcrowded homes can also make people sick. Safe homes help children stay well and learn.
