A man named Albert Butz invented a tool to control coal furnaces in 1885. This was an early version of a thermostat. Later, Mark Honeywell started his own company in Wabash, Indiana, in 1906. He made a special device called a mercury seal generator. In 1927, two companies joined together to become the Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Company.

In 1999, Honeywell merged with a company called AlliedSignal. They chose to keep the name Honeywell because people already knew it well. The company was part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average for many years. In 2021, they moved their stock listing to the Nasdaq. In 2025, the company announced a big plan to split into three separate businesses. These will be Honeywell Automation, Honeywell Aerospace, and Solstice Advanced Materials. Some parts of the company might be worth billions of dollars after this split.

When you walk into a building that stays warm automatically, Honeywell technology might be there. If you see a plane flying high in the sky, it might use aerospace tools they helped create. Even the cameras used for photography were once part of their business. From the 1950s to the 1970s, they sold Pentax cameras in the United States. Their work helps keep buildings safe, planes flying, and machines running smoothly. They have been changing how the world works for over a hundred years.
