Long ago, people shared stories by talking. In 1661, a story about a drummer spread in England. Later, the printing press made it easier to spread lies. Now, hoaxes move very fast on the internet. Fake news websites and social media help them spread.

Some hoaxes are for fun. A director once made a fake wedding video. People thought it was a real accident. It was actually a trick to sell a movie. Other tricks are more serious. Some people use lies to win elections or start wars.

Some people even trick experts. In 1929, people held an art show for a fake artist. They called him Bruno Hat. The paintings were real, but the artist was not. It is important to look for the truth. Always wonder if a story is real.
