It has two main parts that work together. One part is a political party called the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc. This group holds 15 seats in the Lebanese Parliament. The other part is a group of fighters called the Jihad Council. This group is very strong and has many weapons. Some people say it is as big as a medium-sized army.

Because of its military actions, the Lebanese government has banned its fighter wing.

How the group works is quite complex. They do not just focus on politics or fighting. Hezbollah also runs a large network of social services. They provide help to many people through schools and hospitals. They even have their own satellite TV station called Al-Manar. This allows them to share their message with many viewers. They use these services to stay connected to the people they serve. This makes them a major part of daily life for many in Lebanon.

The history of the group began in 1982.

Religious leaders in Lebanon started it during the Israeli invasion. Many Shia people had lost their homes and felt left out of politics. Hezbollah was helped by 1,500 instructors from Iran. These instructors helped different Shia groups join together under one leader. Some people say the group was truly formed by 1985. Others point to a battle in Khalde in June 1982 as a key moment.

There are many important facts to know about their growth. In 1992, the group decided to join Lebanese elections. This changed them from a revolutionary group into a political one. By 2021, the leader Hassan Nasrallah said they had 100,000 fighters. However, many countries view them very differently. As of October 2020, at least 27 countries called them a terrorist group. This includes most Western nations.

A 2024 survey showed 55% of Lebanese people do not trust them at all.

Hezbollah is linked to many big events in the Middle East. They fought in the 2006 Lebanon War and the Syrian civil war. They have also been in a war with Israel since October 2023.

This conflict led to an Israeli invasion of Lebanon. Recently, the Lebanese government has worked on plans to disarm all groups. In 2026, the Prime Minister said their military actions were against the law. These events show how much the group affects the whole region.
