He is most famous for creating *The Adventures of Tintin*. This series is one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century. Hergé also created other notable series. These included *Quick & Flupke* and *The Adventures of Jo, Zette and Jocko*. His work is celebrated for its clarity and deep research. He used a unique drawing style called *ligne claire*. This term means "clear line." It involves using strong, clean outlines for characters and settings.

To create his stories, Hergé followed a specific process of research and drawing. He wanted his worlds to feel authentic and real. In 1934, his friend Zhang Chongren influenced him to focus on background research. This shift led to much higher realism in his work. A key example is the book *The Blue Lotus*. He also moved away from simple captions. Instead, he used speech bubbles to show characters talking. This was a technique he observed in American comics. This method allowed the visual action and dialogue to work together smoothly.

His career involved several distinct stages and types of work. He began with *The Adventures of Totor* for a Scout magazine.

This was a series about a Boy Scout patrol leader. Later, he moved to the newspaper *Le Vingtième Siècle*. There, he created the iconic character Tintin. Tintin is a young Belgian reporter. He travels the world with his fox terrier, Snowy.

Hergé also managed other successful series. For example, he oversaw the publication of *Blake and Mortimer* by Edgar P. Jacobs. In 1950, he established Studios Hergé. This was a professional team created to assist him. Staff members like Jacques Martin and Bob de Moor helped complete his large projects.

Georges Prosper Remi was born on May 22, 1907.

He grew up in Etterbeek, a suburb of Brussels. His family was lower-middle-class. His father, Alexis Remi, worked in a confectionery factory. His mother, Elisabeth Dufour, was a housewife. As a child, Remi was a very active Scout. He was the leader of the Squirrel Patrol. His fellow Scouts even gave him the nickname "Curious Fox." This experience shaped his love for the natural world. It also gave him a sense of loyalty and personal honor.

His life was marked by significant historical changes. During World War II, the German army occupied Belgium. During this time, Hergé worked for the newspaper *Le Soir*. This paper was controlled by the Nazi administration. After the Allied liberation of Belgium in 1944, *Le Soir* was shut down.

Hergé and other staff members were accused of being collaborators. An official investigation followed these accusations. While no legal charges were brought against him, he faced many accusations of being a traitor for years. He eventually moved forward by helping to found *Tintin* magazine in 1946.

Despite professional success, Hergé faced personal and artistic shifts. He experienced personal turmoil after his first marriage collapsed. During this time, he produced *Tintin in Tibet*. He considered this to be his personal favorite work.

In his later years, he became less prolific as a cartoonist. He even attempted to find a new path as an abstract artist.

This was a very different style from his famous clear lines. It showed his desire to experiment with new forms of expression.

Today, Hergé's impact on culture is massive and widespread. His stories have been adapted into many different media. You can find his work in theater, radio, and television. It has also been turned into films and computer games.

He remains a major influence on the comic book medium in Europe. His legacy is honored in Belgium through a dedicated museum.
