The magazine began in 1922. At first, it was for a business school. A man named Wallace Donham helped start it. He did not want it to be just a school paper. He wanted it to be a top journal for business people. Later, it began to talk about how big companies work. In the 1980s, the magazine changed. It became easier for all kinds of people to read. The articles became shorter too.

Today, the magazine uses research to help people. It covers topics like marketing and finance. Marketing is how companies sell things. Finance is how they manage money. It also talks about strategy, which is a plan for success. The magazine even gives out the McKinsey Award. This award honors the two best articles each year. Many smart experts have written for the magazine over the years.
