To become a Gurkha, a person must go through a special process. Ordinary citizens must apply to join the military. They have to pass a selection process and then complete hard training. This makes them part of a very dedicated group of people. They serve in many places, including UN peacekeeping forces in war zones. This work helps keep peace around the world. It is a job that requires great skill and strength.

The history of the Gurkhas began in the Gorkha Kingdom. This was a hill area in what is now Nepal. A leader named Prithvi Narayan Shah ruled the Gorkha Kingdom. He was the last ruler of Gorkha and the first monarch of Nepal.
