He was also a very studious man. He loved to read ancient history books. This learning helped him become a great leader. He cared deeply for his soldiers, but he was not always polite to wealthy or high-ranking people. He focused on being a good and honest person.

There is a famous story about how Guan Yu showed his kindness. At one time, he was captured by a leader named Cao Cao. Cao Cao treated Guan Yu with great respect and gave him many gifts.

Even though Cao Cao was kind, Guan Yu wanted to find his friend Liu Bei. To repay Cao Cao's kindness, Guan Yu fought and defeated a general named Yan Liang. After he did this, Guan Yu left to find his true home. He stayed true to his original oath.

Many people remember Guan Yu by how he looks in art.

Although old records do not describe his face, stories say he had a magnificent beard. In many paintings, he has a red face. This red color is a symbol of being fair and righteous. He is often shown wearing a green robe and carrying a heavy weapon. This weapon was called a Green Dragon Crescent Blade. It was very large and weighed about 108 pounds.

Today, Guan Yu is much more than just a historical figure. He is a hero in many parts of East Asia.
